Judith Tackett, communications consultant and freelance writer
Judith Tackett is the owner of Tackett Communications International. As such she works with local government agencies, political candidates, nonprofit organizations, professional associations, and individuals to ensure consistency and distribution of clear leadership messages. She writes newsletters, blogs and internal documents as well as contributes freelance articles to diverse online and print outlets.
With her strong background in daily journalism, Judy understands what media is looking for and can help you build a solid PR and media relations department. Judy has written successful strategic communications plans and annual PR plans that provided clear direction to her clients.
Prior to becoming a freelance writer, Judy was a staff writer at the Nashville City Paper where she learned the ins and outs of local and state government. She covered an array of topics including regional growth issues, the Tennessee legislature, children’s issues, nonprofit organizations, etc. and eventually created her own beat where she examined the local effect of federal policies. As a result of her work, Judy received the KIDS COUNT Large Print Media Award 2006 for coverage of children’s issues.
Judy holds a Master’s of Science in Mass Media Communications and was invited to present her research paper examining the start up of a new local daily paper at the example of The City Paper at the Association of Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEIMC) Southeast Colloquium in 2003.
She serves on the boards of Lovie’s Legacy, an organization dedicated to end animal suffering through education and support of animal welfare needs, and Bastion Inc., a nonprofit that provides educational outreach to African immigrants and tries to integrate them in their local communities.
